Become Board Certified
The American Council of Animal Naturopathy, LLC is the only board certifying organization of its kind that recognizes differing levels of expertise, education and specialty for the natural animal care consultant and/or practitioner. Whether you are a holistic veterinarian, animal naturopath, animal Iridologist, animal aromatherapist, natural animal care consultant, animal homeopath, etc. you have studied and worked hard to earn your expertise and specialization. A.C.A.N. acknowledges your credentials and offers certification in specific areas of animal naturopathy. We are the only certifying organization world-wide that recognizes your unique niche and expertise.
The intent of certification is to provide assurance to the public that those certified by the Board of the American Council Animal Naturopathy have successfully completed an approved educational program and an evaluation process assessing their ability to provide quality care in his/her specialty.
For practitioners, A.C.A.N. certification is much more than a credential. It’s the cornerstone of a successful career. Because even if you work in a state that does not require certification, the A.C.A.N. certification establishes you as a dedicated professional with the knowledge and skills to uphold high standards of excellence in animal naturopathy.
REQUIREMENTS
Veterinary Naturopath
Each applicant/candidate for professional, board certification as a certified veterinary naturopath must hold a doctoral degree in veterinary medicine or animal naturopathy.
Each applicant/candidate for board certification in veterinary naturopathy, animal naturopathy must show proof of education (ie. grade transcripts, certificates, diplomas) in natural/holistic animal health and/or have successfully completed ACAN's course in small animal naturopathy and/or equine naturopathy along with a minimum of one elective in a natural healing modality to be eligible to take the board examination.
Natural Animal Care Consultant/Animal Health Coach or Practitioner, Carnivore Nutrition Consultant, Equine Nutrition Consultant or Natural Animal Health Educator
Applicants for board certification in Animal Naturopathy Consulting, Animal Health Coaching,Carnivore Nutrition, Equine Nutrition or a specialty modality in natural animal care must show proof of education (ie. grade transcripts, certificates, diplomas) and/or have successfully completed ACAN's certification course in small animal naturopathy/animal health coach, carnivore nutrition, equine naturopathy or equine nutrition; along with a minimum of one elective in a natural healing modality to be eligible to take the board examination.

Initial certification is good for one year, thereafter, being re certified requires proof of attendance in continuing education with a minimum of thirty (30) learning units with either one of A.C.A.N.s modules or from one of A.C.A.N.s approved educational partners' courses, webinars or seminars for the following calendar year.
Those certified may also put on their own webinars, seminars or write their own courses to count towards their annual re-certification. Please send A.C.A.N. the information and links to such events to be announced to students and other certified members.
Continuing education verification will be due no later than July 31st 2013 and will be due each July 31st thereafter.
Why Re-certify?
The two most important reasons to re-certify are your career and yourself. Because as the field of Animal Naturoapthy and its many natural care modalities continues to gain acceptance, more and more people enter the profession every year. This means more competition. By re-certifying, you distinguish yourself as an accomplished professional committed to improving your skills and your knowledge.

Re-certification is $79.00 per year.
It is your responsibility to renew your certification on time to avoid your certification being cancelled. You must complete the required number of Continuing Education Learning Units during your annual certification period.
Each individual who is certified is responsible for maintaining and keeping their own records of Continuing Education Learning Units earned.

HOW TO APPLY FOR CERTIFICATION
Applicants undergo a formal process designed to ascertain and acknowledge that he or she has met or exceeded the American Council of Animal Naturopathy's recognized standard. The applicant’s past education and experience, as well as his or her performance on the written certifying board examination, determine whether or not certification will be granted.

Read the application all the way through before assembling your documentation.
Obtain a transcript and/or a copy of your diploma(s) from the school or schools you attended, make copies and include with the application. Please send only copies of your records. We cannot be held responsible for items lost in the mail system.
Complete and print the ACAN examination application form. Incomplete forms cannot be processed and will delay the procedure.
You will of course, be evaluated according to your qualifications and experience.
The examination fee is $199.00
Please Note: a separate, non-refundable processing fee of $25.00 is required at time of application.
This examination and processing fee may be paid in a cashiers check or money order when mailing the application or use the PayPal Buy Now Button below for quicker processing.

Within 3 days of receiving the application and documents, you will be notified by email and receive the study guide. A day and time will be scheduled for you take the examination and you will sent your login and password to the testing area.
Payment of $199.00 for the examination, plus the $25.00, non-refundable processing fee will be due with the application.
If for some reason you are not deemed eligible or qualified to take the examination, your examination fee will be returned to you.
Within 5 business days of you taking the examination, you will receive notification of your grade. A passing grade will result in you receiving a certificate stating your certification that is suitable for framing and your profile and website will be posted on the website.
In order to pass the examination, you must receive a 75% or higher on each individual section of the examination.
If you did not pass, then you have the option to retake the examination after waiting 2 months. If you failed in only 1 or 2 sections of the examination, you can retake only those sections for a fee of $40 per section and re-take in 30 days. If you failed 3 or more sections, you must retake the full examination for a fee of $100. A maximum of 3 attempts is allowed. (Note: The fees to take the examination or retake is non-refundable in order to cover administrative costs.)
